Another option is to go with a health insurance discount card. You have to pay low monthly rates; this is determined by the amount of people on the plan. You present the card to doctors and pharmacists that are participants in the program and in return you receive discounted rates.
A Health Savings Account, or HSA, is another available choice for individuals and families. If you are enrolled or are planning to enroll in a High Deductible Health Plan, or HDHP, the HSA is an option for you. This is a savings account that is tax-deferred, allowing you to withdraw and deposit money for medical expenses. Some people go with this option because of the freedom of choosing your own doctors and treatments. The money in the account has no restrictions, so it can be used for any medical expenses. Others go with this option because of the IRA features; when you reach retirement age, you are able to withdraw the money without facing any penalties.
The HMO, Health Maintenance Organization, health plan can be obtained on your own or through an employer. It has a low flat-rate premium and requires you to pay low co-payments. You are only able to use one doctor, a Primary Care Physician, from their network.
