How Much Should I Pay for Health Insurance?
How much you will pay for health insurance depends on a variety of factors. It is important to understand your options before agreeing to any policy.
One factor is the current state of your health. A person who is young and does not have a history of having medical health issues will likely pay much less than a person of a greater age and a history of health problems. If you are middle aged with minimal health issues your policy will be somewhere in the middle. You will also likely pay more if you are a smoker, overweight or have other high risk factors.
Those are the factors that you cannot control. However, you do have control over several other factors. For example, you can buy a policy with lower coverage and a lower premium. This would be a better option for a younger person with minimal anticipated health problems. For a person with health issues or who is taking several types of medications, it would likely be a better choice to pay more for a policy with better coverage. It will cost more on a monthly (or yearly, depending on your payment plan) basis but will possibly save you money in the long term, as your deductible and co-pay will be less.
Those are two examples of the two extremes but what do you do if you fall somewhere in the middle? The idea here is to find a policy that matches your needs. There are a lot of different kinds of policies and coverage out there. It might take time and energy to research the options available to you, but your health coverage is something you should take very seriously. A few hours of time today can save you time, money and hassle in the future.
